I have the tx2110us, purchased from Amazon, and there are quite a few attractive features that first drew me to this laptop/tablet, but after owning it for about 4 months now, I’ve found myself to be quite unhappy. So I’ll go over the good stuff first:
-Lots of RAM
-Large HD
-Touchscreen and supporting software are very cool: software & hardware combination gets you a realistic tablet that is even pressure sensitive (the harder you push on the screen, the thicker the line gets)
-Swivel screen & entertainment hardware make for good portable movie watching
-Built in wireless (a/b/g/n)/bluetooth technology
-Webcam is neat
-Fingerprint scanner works reasonably well (handy way to keep computer secure, although it is pretty finicky at times)
Now onto my gripes and complaints:
First off, yes, the tx2110us does get hot–very hot… Hot to the point of overheating and shutting down completely, even if you’re in the middle of something. I’ve sent my laptop in twice so far (I’m waiting for it to get back after the second time around), and the first time, they said the replaced the motherboard. Didn’t work–still overheats. What’s worse is they reformatted my HD, so I had to uninstall all the crapware (which there is a ton of by the way). I’ve changed the power settings as well, which is what the some of the reviewers have suggested, and it still overheats. I can only hope that the geniuses at HP can figure out a way to solve this because it’s getting quite annoying…
Speaking of geniuses at HP, once you’re tech support escalates into sending your laptop in for repair, they assign you a case manager. He tried calling me twice to get a confirmation that my computer was returned safely, and that was it. I then tried 5 times– 5 times!!! to get a hold of him to tell him that the problem wasn’t fixed. Each time I got someone else who said “oh he’s busy right now, I’ll send him an email to let him know you called” and I got nothing in return–NOTHING! I got so frustrated and angry.
My recommendation: if you keep this computer on “power saver” setting, delete all the crapware, you may be able to enjoy this computer with it’s abundant features… For myself (and I do consider myself somewhat computer savvy), I would like to enjoy the performance characteristics of my laptop without a hitch, & if you’re like that, you probably don’t want to buy this computer because you’ll spend an hour or more getting rid of the crapware & you won’t be able to run it at “high performance” because it will overheat and shut down. I can only wait to see what kind of repairs they performed on it this time (which probably won’t fix the problem).

This is not even close to my first laptop I get a new one at least once a year to keep up with the crazy needs of my job. I love this HP so much it is fast but you need to keep in mind that is has windows vista this will not make the laptop bad but if you hate vista you may not want this. I will say I have had lots of laptops that I have spent about 1,000USD more on that dont work as well. This is fast and will fill the needs of anyone in school it is also amazing for work and play. For the price it is well worth it. As far as the dark key issue I got moonlight white : ) so I have pretty white keys that shimmer a little. HP is always a brand you can trust even if there is a issue they will help you work through it.

I think this laptop is practically perfect! I read all of the reviews on amazon before purchasing it, and the only flaw I read was that the grey letters on the keys were difficult to see. I have had no problem in any light or at any angle seeing what is on the keys. I have no complaints! It’s very user friendly and would recommend this laptop for anyone!

I have wanted to buy a tablet pc for a long time now, and I did some serious research before making this purchase - and I’m glad I did. It’s wacom penabled, which is a must for any artist, as well as being within a normal consumer/starving artist budget. All other tablet pcs were over $1000 which was just out of my budget.
There are a few things that I could live without however. The battery life is about 2 hours when running on high performance, which is nearly essential if you want to use it in tablet mode. The pen is delayed, but not enough to affect my artwork in a negative way. Sometimes when converting into slate mode the screen does not switch, and requires a restart. The processor runs very hot, but I usually use my laptop while wearing pants so its never uncomfortable. I can run firefox and Photoshop simultaneously with very little lag but if the processor gets hot it will slow down. All in all a great product for the price, with a few minor problems but the savings makes it worth it.
